Celebrity Home of the Week: Donna Karan's Island Retreat

After yesterday's post about a famous hip-hop mogul's home, we figured we'd give you something nice to look at today.  Fortunately, the latest issue of Architectural Digest (December 2009) offers plenty of choices. We just got ours in the mail this week and we were delighted to see that the entire issue is devoted to celebrity homes. And we loved almost every home we saw!

We especially loved the British West Indies family retreat of celebrated fashion designer Donna Karan (shown above on the left, with her daughter Gabrielle).  It's earthy and gorgeous!

Donna's family retreat consists of a series of pavilions -- including separate guest, spa and yoga pavilions-- ranging from 4,000 to 7,000 square feet each.  All are located on Parrot Cay in the Turks and Caicos Islands.  It reminds us of film-maker Rob Cohen's Bali retreat.

The main house pavillion (top photo and below) is casually open, with ocean views and numerous spots for lounging.

In contrast, the guesthouse living room, filled with beautiful African Art, looks wonderfully secluded:

And imagine waking up bathed in the morning sunlight in this master bedroom in the spa pavilion:

We would never leave!  That's why, it's our Celebrity Home of the Week!  Ciao!

  1. The only thing I like about this house is the location. I still love her clothing line.

  2. Wow--that just goes to show that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. We thought this was an objectively beautiful home, meaning everyone would like it. Oh well!

  3. I absolutely love it! Clean lines. Natural earth tones.

  4. I really like this house...but I can't imagine living in it every day. I think it's too monochrome - all the dark woods (browns)- with a splash of white here and there.

I think it would be soothing initially, but eventually I would crave some color (and I'm not even big on color). The house is crying out for vibrant colored accents to complement all the browns and green colors from the trees.

  5. I am not surprised by the clean estetic and the need for peace and tranwquility. Fashion makes everyone crazy.
I remember one runway show; the show had started the model wearing the 2nd look was not dressed. Why, they were still sewing the dress. The dress made it and everything was fine. As you can see Fashion Week can drive people MAD.
On that happy note, the is is a nice home.

  6. Thanks Anon, Sounds like the fashion world is hectic. Good thing Donna has such a fabulous place to get away from it all.

Hey BeachGal, we don't think Donna stays here year-round. The monocrome look seems to make for a peaceful retreat, which is what she's aiming for.
